Initial setup of your FYARE PC – step-by-step guide

Setting up your new FYARE PC for the first time is straightforward if you follow a few basic steps. In this article, we'll show you how to connect everything correctly, configure the optimal display settings, and get the most out of your graphics card.

1. Connect the correct cables

The first step in setting up your PC is connecting your monitors. Pay particular attention to the following points:

Use a DisplayPort cable: Be sure to connect your display to the graphics card and not the motherboard. This is the only way to utilize your GPU's full performance and enable G-Sync or FreeSync.
HDMI as an alternative: If your monitor or GPU doesn't have a DisplayPort connection, HDMI will also work, but features like G-Sync are often only available via DisplayPort.
Ensure power supply: Don't forget to connect your monitor and PC to the power supply correctly.

2. Initial Windows setup

After connecting, you can start the PC and set up Windows:

Select language, region and time zone
Connect WLAN or LAN
Set up a Microsoft account (alternatively a local account)
Confirm privacy and update settings

Tip: Let Windows check for updates before installing drivers. This ensures a more stable installation.

3. Perform Windows Updates

Before you begin installing the drivers, you should make sure your system is up to date:

Go to Settings → Update & Security → Windows Update
Click Check for Updates
Install all available updates and restart your PC if necessary

This ensures that your operating system runs stably and that there are no conflicts with current drivers.

4. Update graphics card drivers

5. Adjust display resolution, refresh rate and G-Sync / FreeSync

Step 1: Set display resolution and refresh rate

Right-click on the desktop → Display settings
Under “Scaling and Resolution” select the native resolution of your monitor
Set the maximum refresh rate under “Advanced display settings”
Optional: Adjust HDR or color space if your monitor supports it

Step 2: Enable G-Sync (NVIDIA)

Right-click on the desktop → NVIDIA Control Panel
Select the menu item Display → Set up G-SYNC
Check “Enable G-SYNC”
Select the monitor on which G-SYNC will be used
Apply and confirm settings

Step 3: Enable FreeSync (AMD)

Right-click on the desktop → Open AMD Radeon Software
Select the Display tab
Enable FreeSync option
Check monitor: FreeSync is only enabled if the monitor supports it

Tip: When G-Sync or FreeSync is enabled, the graphics card dynamically adjusts the refresh rate to your game's FPS, ensuring an extremely smooth and stutter-free gaming experience.
Additional tip: VSync should always be disabled in games, otherwise it can block the adaptive synchronization of G-Sync or FreeSync.

6. Further optimizations

After the basic configuration is completed, it is worth taking a look at:

Adjust energy modes: Set gaming PCs to “high performance”
Monitor color calibration: For best image quality, especially for workstations for content creation
